Please help me to understand the “BIND” function in Vertex subobject level of Editable patch.

I would like to connect two patches with different resolution. According the Help in Max I should weld the corner vertices and then the rest of them I can bind to the edge. But no matter what I tried the only way how to bind a vertex to the edge is to have only one vertex between the welded corner vertices. If I have two or more I cannot bind anything. What do I do wrong?

In the Help of Max there is a picture for better understanding the Bind function but I don’t understand it at all. How can I have two attached patches (as one object) and have different number of “View Steps” visible as Interior Edges? I suppose they show us the interior edges because the blue vertices are not visible there. Or maybe it is just illustration and there are vertices everywhere.

Anyway please make it clear for me.

Thanx
