Please help!

I have a product i am trying to render.  Without a gradient ramp material applied it renders fine.  With it applied however, it renders horribly with black speckles in the shadow areas.  What am i missing here? All i have changed between the 2 images is the material.  Render settings were kept the same.  Any help is MUCH appreciated!  Thanks!

-josh

What type of material is it? Any reflective properties?

no reflectivity - base on an architectural / design matte plastic.

Did you modify the reflection of the matte plastic material to be 0? Does it happen if you assign a regular standard material?

Ok, sort of solved the problem.  The gradient ramp is a base layer of a composite material.  The layer above it has an image containing the label that goes on the front of the bottle.  If i turn the logo off, the speckles go away.  Now im really confused because the speckles are happening in areas that does not have the image.

Does the object have UV coordinates set?

yes, UV coordinates set for each of the 2 layers in the composite material and 2 different mapping channels.

Can you post the scene with just that object? It will be a big help (and faster).

Ok, re-created material on a simple cylinder.  Scene attached.  Speckles are still there.

It seems to be a combination of the lights’ shape and the standard material with the Dove logo. Changing the lights’ shape to Point fixed it (the other shapes gave some artifacts as well). And changing the material to raytrace also seemed to work a bit.
