My hotkeys are malfunctioning. I’ve been using default settings and slowly my hotkeys were getting quirky. At first some keys won’t work. Like Ctrl-S which really hurt productivity. Slowly more keys, like WER and then the orthographic views TLvRB etc… Now all my hotkeys won’t work (can’t even use delete) but I can still type stuff in.

I can’t find anything related to this in the search.

Although the keyboard is fine I think my Keyboard-video-Mouse Switch has something to do with it. I have no Remote desktop thanks to vista so I had to make do with the KVM switch.

I know this thread is a year old, but I thought I’d resolve it seeing there are ppl using 2010 and running into this issue.

Your Profile is corrupt.  If you use custom shortcuts, be sure to save them out locally so you can quickly load them up again.

After you’ve saved out those files (kbd, mnu etc...) close Max and go to this dir:

C:\Documents and Settings\Your-Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\2010 - 32bit

Delete that entire folder called ‘enu’.

When you relaunch max, it will rebuilt that folder but everything will be default settings.  Customize UI and load your UI files back in.

Voila.

Hi,

Why would Vista block remote desktop? I use it all the time. Just make sure it is enabled on the remote machine, and that your user is allowed to connect.

A KVM switch shouldn’t be blocking keystrokes, either. If you open up the Customize->Customize User Interface… menu and the Keyboard tab, if you type a key in the Hotkey: box it doesn’t show anything?

Try turning off the “Keyboard Shortcut Override Toggle” button. That filters keystroke through plugin, and everything is a plugin. You may see some keystrokes not work when you are in the EditPoly, for instance, as it is capturing those keystrokes for it’s own purposes. It should pass-through anything it doesn’t capture. Turning this Off gets all those shortcuts back.

Hi Jenni,
It was actually my fault for not knowing that home and home basic doesn’t have remote desktop. It was quite absurd that i would be paying a $100 difference for just that one service.

I tried the toggle and from checking its description I didn’t know it was the cause of many of my work problems when I’m at edit poly. It hasn’t changed the situation, I could still access F1 but I cant Ctrl-Q P or any other key except F1 which is weird. I could still type in the entry portions but otherwise almost all the hotkeys are disabled. I must have pressed something to disable all keyboard actions which F1 has a failsafe against.

Thanks for the tip, its gotten me to the right direction.
Justin

Just thought I’d pass along that an above posted solution worked for us. One of our artists was experiencing a problem with his hotkeys not working in the unwrap window.

Thanks for the help.
