i want to connect remotely from one computer to another to use max design 2009 from home, problem is, i cant see anything in the viewport, i can render it and see the rendering but i cant work in the viewport. could this be caused but the settings in max on the remote station to be open GL and maybe my home computer might not support open GL or is there something that i am missing?

the only reason why i am not running direct x is i constantly get the error where in the viewport where it states i have to restart max -h somting or other.

my work system is a BOXX with 2 quadcore 2.8’s , nvidia 3700, 4 gigs of ram (800mhz)

my homw system is a pentium D 3.2 with 2 gigs ram and an integrated video card with 256mb shared memory.

i am thinking it is time for a new graphics card but max runs fine at home. i think it might have something to do with the remote connection and disply settings.

if you know whats going on, please chime in

Thanks;
Herb

I would try setting the work computer to use the software driver or to use the Direct X driver and see if that fixes the problem.  Just start max via the start menu in Windows and select the ‘Change Graphic Mode’ option.

Incidentely, I believe under the new subscription license you’re allowed to install max at work and another one
at home ...

thanks, i am aware of that but the work computer is the one with all the mapped drives and has the most horsepower for rendering.

There is a product called ‘GoToMyPc’ from Citrix - it is amazing - I was working remotely in 95% realtime with it whilst on vacation - about 2,000 kms away over two ADSL links.

Benefits - your main PC can use the directx renderer, seamless application usage, login from anywhere.

It is amazing. Simple web-based login, multiple pcs, cost effective. I use it to check on renders from home, model, etc., and programs don’t have any clue that you are using it. It is faster than remote desktop on a LAN.

No, I don’t own the company - just wish I did!
