I’m taking a course at school, and one of the modules we do is creating a 3d rendering of a room in a house using 3ds max design.
I downloaded the trial to get soem practice in and nothing seems to work right.
One big problem is that my transform gizmo will only ever move along the same two axis no matter which one i pick. If i pick the z axis, it will move the objects around on the x and y.
Does anyone know how to correct this?

Is the transform gizmo red? if so you disabled it - press “X”. Alternatively, you can select which axis, or pair of axes, the motion is constrained to on the Axis Constraints toolbar. If that isn’t visible (see image) then right-click a blank portion of the main toolbar and click on “Axis Constraints”.
Max 4.2 through 2013.

NVidia 9800GTX-512 (Driver 266.58).
Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX9.0c.

The gizmo was on.
But no matter what I picked it would move it along the xy plane.
I’ll try that and see if it makes a difference.

Alright.
I restarted the program and it works.
Didn’t do anything different, it’s just deciding to be nice now.

Yikes!
It was doing it again.
But i discovered the problem!
As it turns out, it was doing this silly thing because i turned snaps on.
Now it is fixed!

Yes and no. It depends on which snaps are active. 3D Snaps to Vertex will work, but if you also have Snap to Grid active then it may appear not to work.
