You can change the plane to the same proportions as the image, if that isn’t an option, add a UVW map and alter the mapping size to the correct aspect for the image or use the Bitmap Fit option under alighnment.

Well you really can, but the project may not allow you to do so due to the constraints of the project. Or, is the Plane not a Plane primitive object, but rather an Editable Mesh or Editable Poly that is planar? In that case you can either Scale on Selection Center at vertex sub-object level, or apply an XForm modifier and Scale its Gizmo.

If you have image editing software, you can simply crop the image to the correct proportions.

Following up on what has already been said…

You need to know the aspect ratio - Height vs. Width - of the image. In this case 1:5.
Apply a UVW Mapping modifier to your Plane object. Set the Modifier to Planar. Uncheck Real-World Map Size (Parameters rollout) if checked. Set the Length to 1’ and the Width to 5’.

(Bitmap images have no “size” in inches and feet until they are applied to an object, real or virtual. They do have a pixel dimension size.)

Just use an unzipping program like WinRar or 7-Zip to zip your files together. Then you can attach them on here. There isn’t a problem with your account. No one can attach .max files.

Yes they must be zipped.

and

No. Absoulutely not. This site does NOT accept anything but .zip, so forget 7zip, winrar and even .tar.gz. They won’t attach.

What exactly are you trying to do with this image?  If you want it to display at 1’ x 5’, then set your UVW map to that size.  Some of the image will be cropped off the edges.  Since you say your plane is only half the width, then maybe you want to make the UVW map half the height as well, so the image tiles twice on the plane.

I looked at your file, and your plane is NOT currently at 2.5’ x 1’.  It’s 1.31’ x 4.392’, so I’m a little confused about what you want to do…

HI Chris

Thanks for loking into this file .If you look closely my current image is really long then the width of the plane .If applied on the plane would squeze the image on the plane .Is there a way to adjust this long image in width on this plane ithout sqeezing or sqeshing.

Crop the image to the same aspect ratio as the Plane.

Use a bigger Plane.

Apple a UVW Mapping modifier to the plane. Scale the modifier’s gizmo along the axis to expand the image. This would have the same effect as cropping the image to the same aspect ratio as the Plane.

Is this what you want?
Two things: the UVW Mapping gizmo is scaled, and Tile is unchecked for U and V in the Bitmap Coordinates rollout.
