Turning off the pagefile is not recommended.  I’m sure Windows will give you a little warning if you try to turn it off. 

If you’re really worried about the speed of the pagefile, either invest in a 15K RPM drive dedicated to the swapfile, or look into a RAMdrive or solid state drive.  All will be much faster than a standard drive.  Of course, you already knew that… http://area.autodesk.com/for...solid-state-scratch-disk/

You could just set the pagefile to the smallest it will allow, like 16MB I think.  Probably your best bet to minimize swapping of memory.

I second that , it’s good advice ;) nver turn off your pagefile, and get a good fast harddrive if you have spare cash.

Austin, by the time that becomes available and ready for the consumer market, 128 GB of RAM will be the new standard. :-P

I recall a day when saying 1 GB of RAM was sort of a joke, like a TB of RAM today.  Of course, I remember having a 100 MB hard disk on an old computer and thinking there’s no way I’d ever fill that!  :)

That’s a loaded question!  I’m assuming you are running a 64-bit OS, with 64-bit apps.  Well, your computer is only going to allocate as much RAM as the applications request.  If you’re only using 3 GB of RAM, that’s all the programs that are running currently need.

Unless, of course, you are getting some sort of “out of memory” error.  If you are using 32-bit processes, they are limited to a maximum of 2 GB each, or 3 GB if you’ve enabled the “switch” in the OS.  When I hit the 10 GB mark, that was the highest I’ve ever seen my RAM usage, and it was sort of a fluke.  I generally hover around the 1.5 to 2.5 GB mark.

you only need what is required to render ... it really don’t really matter how much ram you have if you don’t need that much.
Same with graphic card’s ram. sometimes 1GB of DDR3 ram is overkill because it just isn’t gonna need so much of it.
Why? Becos the GPU can’t and won’t handle so much data. The best reason to get more ram even though you know you don’t
need them would be just incase sometimes ram has “bad sectors” and you don’t wanna be bothered with it.
