Hello.  I’m new to and have 3ds max 2009 SP1.  I have two questions but both are related.

Question 1 -
I’ve read in these forums that there are some actions that will clear the undo stack.  I’m not talking about the undo bug but there seems to be “known” (and therefore not a bug?) actions which will clear the stack.  Is there a list of these actions somewhere?

So far, I’ve read that the following will do it:
1. Stated here: “start creating a box, and just before you place the final click to set the height, right-click (which should simply cancel the creation). This often works--but not always.”
2. Stated here: “reset xforms and collapsing”
3. Also stated in link #2, “in the Material Editor, drag a blank map button onto an existing map to clear it.”

Are there others?  I want to know when something will cause me to lose the stack.

Question 2 -
I’ve also read that some actions will not be entered into the undo stack at all, for example, applying an IK solver.  What other actions will not be entered into the stack?

Thanks.

Hi

I suppose we have better to know which uno action work properly in Max 2009 rather than to know which one dont work an clear the undo stack…

If someone in the development team from Autodesk could hear us and send us an hotfix asap for the new year… :)

Waiting for this, I continue to work with Max 9.

Best regards

Hi,

That can be frustrating, can’t it?  Oftentimes the undo stack is cleared by a script, and therefore is unpredictable.  It is always a good idea to save multiple versions of the files, especially when you may need to go back to an old version, and also to use the Hold / Fetch commands in the edit menus.

Thanks for this advises Jennifer. Indeed my experience with this problem is that the clearing of the undo stack & impossibility to undo an action is unpredictable and not linked to a particular action. Anytime it work, and anytime it don’t work, seemingly depending on the Max session.
