Customise > Configure User Interface

Should look like the attached image. If it does but it still doesn’t work then I’m not sure. Maybe your keyboard has a driver where those keys can be configured?

Max 4.2 through 2013.
XP-64 (SP2)
NVidia 9800GTX-512 (Driver 266.58).
Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX9.0c.

Yip mine looks like yours. I am sure that this is the later problem in your post i.e. the keyboard and driver issue.... mmm ... I will look into this tomorrow.

Steve you da bestest.. honestly thanks for your help..... mmm ... one more question? In the tutorial they said press F3 and nothing about Smooth and highligts i.e. where my original problem began.

Is there somewhere where I can go to see what F3 (in this instance) is a short cut for? I must accept that this will happen again in the tutorial where it will tell me to press some other key and I will not know what it is.

Thanks again Steve

On that dialog there’s a big “Write Keyboard Chart” button. It will create a text file listing all the options and their current shortcut keys. Easy enough to look down the list and find the key. If you have the boxed version of Max (as opposed to the download trial) there’s always the “borg cube”.
