Guys i have been having this on going problem on two different pcs. first it was with max 9 on XP 32 bit OS now its with Max 2009 on Vista 64bit os. Two different scenes, im sure if they were the same scene it wud still give me the same error on startup. really frustrating…

Basically as soon as i start up max and load a scene it says ”an error has occurred and the application will now close no scene changes have occurred since your last save”

Whats crazy is that the scene is new, i just started working on it with only 4 or 5 boxes or editable poly sitting on an imported autocad plan...saved it and reopned it later on and BAM, that dreaded error im so used to seeing and rror report sending…

Anyway ive done a search and found this topic: http://area.autodesk.com/for...x-2008-application/#98166

i have followed it down to a tee and still no luck. can sum1 please help me!!! i cant get any work done at this rate....

My current rig has Max 2009 with Service Pack 1 on Vista HomePremium 64Bit with all necessary updates same with my GPU

Please, please, please any1 out there!!!

I can happen that scene files get corrupted.  We’ve all run into it before, and lost work because of it.  A few things that minimize the loss are using Autobackup to recover after a Max shutdown, or saving incrementally, where every save appends the file name with a number.  I typically do a Save (+) every time, and at the end of the day delete all but the last 3 or 4 files.

If there is corrupt geometry, you can try merging the file into a new scene.  But if you can’t even open it normally, it likely will not merge.  You could also try zipping the file and posting it here to see if someone else can open it.  If so, then there could be a problem with your install of Max.

I wish I could suggest more, but once a file goes corrupt, there isn’t a whole lot you can do to recover it.

thanks for that. i thought as much. my tutor said i wud need to merge each component and see wat the offending item wud be.

anyway why is it such a problem with max. every scene i work on gets this problem and its always with an editable poly box with a few segments....nothign crazy or advanced…

Generally when I have a file go bad, it’s due to imported geometry that is not clean or has some errors already.  You shouldn’t be getting corrupt geometry by making simple Max Epolys.  Do you use any 3rd Party plugins or anything else not standard with Max?

i remembr the last time it happened was when i did a boolean, again nothing complex.

Well, I’ve learned to avoid any Compound Objects (Boolean, Shapemerge, Loft, Etc.) whenever I can.  They seem to be the most problem riddled, and can make some ugly meshes.  There is usually a better way, even though it may take longer and be more difficult.  But the results will be cleaner and easier to work with.
