xmax: i’m working on XP 64 bit, Max 2008 / 2009, it practacly has to be a network / hardware problem… my mental ray has never never never never crashed on this OS… on my laptop, the 32bit i’m having an error on startup called 0xC00000005 or sumthin (Tim Wilbers is having the same problem atm), it’s unsolved, so in other words, it’s just buggin.

I reïnstall my OS every month on both computers (EDIT: not allowed) - however, this is the first time max 32bit bugs on my laptop, why? I don’t know, but I dear bet when reïnstalling the OS in 2 weeks, max will run again. max just isn’t feeling up to it “this” month ;) I sure as hell ain’t going to look for a needle in a haystack, my laptop is just the same with the same programs, like every month.

But surely, if you would feel the nerve to reïnstall your workstation(s), 100% gauranteed that the problem is solved :p (lol) - thats a bit cruel I guess.

Have you tried switching everything off in your scene, then in groups of related objects switch things back on until you get a crash. Does the scene render OK without mentalray GI? or without the proxies?

You need to narrow down the possible culprits.

Sorry I haven’t got any time to make some experiences with this file… When I have a little time I will try some more things. Stay tune ;)

Thanks to all of you :)

Hi
My guess is there is a problem with a piece of geometry in your scene.
Is all your geometry built in max or is some/all of it imported?
Have the mental ray Message Window open during rendering to see if it says anything before crashing.
Other wise I would do as reform suggested.

Best of luck!
