I am having some problems with the snap tool.
I want to snap a dummy to a vertex, however, the dummy seems to float in the air for some reason.
The green dummy is where I want it. The white dummy is supposed to be on the snap marker, the blue cross.
I have used snap in XSI and it worked fine, so I am not sure what I am missing. Or are there some other suggestions?
(sorry if this has been asked before, but I have been searching the forums for hours and not really seeing a solution for my case)

This forum doesn’t support embedded images (using IMG tags) - simply attach your image using the Browse button (under where you type in your post). Link doesn’t seem to work here either, or rather it leads to nowhere of interest.
If you’re working in the Perspective viewport, make sure you have Snap to Vertex and 3D Snaps selected.

Thanks for the fast reply. Yes I am using 3d snaps, as I like to work in perspective view most of the time. As for the image, I am trying to upload it again with browse.
(On the previous link, my image is on the right hand screen. it is a screenshot of max)

Turn off the “Snaps use Axis Constraints” toggle.
On the Options tab of the Grid and Snap Settings dialog, enable “Use Axis center as start snap point”.
Turn snaps off (shortcut is “S")
Grab your Dummy, turn snaps back on without releasing the LMB then move it to the required vertex. Note that when you turn the snaps on, the Mouse Cursor AND the (blue) snap cursor jump to the pivot point of the Dummy.
If you wanted to snap a specific vertex on one object to a specific vertex on another then you can leave the snaps on, but be certain the cursor has snapped to the required vertex on the 1st object before you grab it.
An important point with snaps is that it is the Cursor which is snapping, not the object - it just follows along for the ride.
[edit] I run my browser with scripting disabled which may account for the problem i had with Imageshack. Either way, attaching images to the posts is the preferred method here, because links have a habit of dying which doesn’t help [/edit]

Is there a way to get the object to snap?

If you follow what I suggested then it will. If you grab the object by its pivot (which is what the option I mentioned does) then the pivot and the snap are the same point (in 3D space). The blue snap cursor is actually a “preview cursor” - depending on the settings it shows where the point you grabbed on the object will end up.
Snaps off - grab - snaps on.

I have been trying to do what you said, and had no luck. So I deceided to delete the dummy and create a new one, which then for no reason started working 0o
Anyhow, thanks for the advice, it did help me.
