| Pelt Mapper is Broken in Max 2009
|
|
|
When ever a model is brought into MAX 2009, (Both Design and Studio) the pelt mapper does not work.
You can do this by opening a previous version MAX file or import from a diffrent software.
apply Unwrap UVW and face sub object.
Apply point to point seams.
Make seams on Model.
In my case it was a face. I made a seam from forhead to back of neck.
then I made a seam around the eyes, nostrals and mouth.
When I applied the pelt the stretcher springs were only attached to the last seam I made. (This being the Mouth)
Pelt mapper works in all other versions of 3ds MAX.
Are there plans to fix this as it is nessesary for my Job.
SP1 does not address this Problem.

Does it work on an object created in 2009?
Is this only related to objects from previous Max versions, Merged objects, and/or Imported objects?
I do not use it much, but just recently in class we did the tutorial on Mapping the Pants. While there are some differences, it did work as expected.
Plans to fix the problem? First Autodesk needs to know the problem exists and can be replicated. (Posting here does not mean anyone from development will read your post.)

Thank you for your reply.
The problem only seems to exist when you import objects or open previous max versions.
The Head I posted there was created in Max 9.
Please try this and let me know if you get the same results.
I am a Professor of game art and design at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale.
I use that head to demo with in my texturing class.
I guess I will need to model a new head in max 2009 as our school has uninstalled all previous versions of max.
Thanks so Much for the link to the bug report page.
I’ll post there as well.

Hey Craig,
See if you get the same problem with this file (attached). It’s the head geometry from, ‘childCasLo.obj’ (a Poser 5 model I think?).
I imported the .obj into Max9, cut it in half, deleted some edges, cut some new edges, put the symmetry modifier on it, then collapsed the stack into an Edit Poly, used the Reset XForm on it & saved the file. Then I opened the .max file in Max 2009 32bit SP1, and tested the Pelt mapping on it.
The Max 2009 Pelt mapping seemed to work without any issues, but I’m not sure if I’ve done all of the same steps as you did them (maybe the Reset XForm made a difference?).
Hope you’ve had some luck with this, -and I’ll be glad to try and help :) .
Good luck!

YEs, THe only way to get around it it seams is to create your model in 2009. Thats a flaw most definitely.
Sofar, I’m not impressed with 2009.
They need to stop making it like MAYA and concentrate on thier base, Mostly Games and Arch.
