Has anyone encountered their quad menus disappearing after you right click on the viewport but reappears when you mouse over an item? I never experience it in xp but I do in vista. im using an nVidia 8500gt on an athlon X2 6000 for my vista and an nVidia 9600gt on a phenom for my xp.

I hope to know if its vista’s fault again that this is happening.

Thanks in advance for your patience and feedbacks

Never had the entire quad menu disappear, I have had the odd item or 2 go though. I don’t think it’s Vista specific seeing as I’ve had it on multiple versions (of Max) on Win2k and XP64 - it’s more likely nVidia’s drivers.
it doesn’t happen often enough to bother me, and (as you said) they come back if you move the mouse over them.

Max 4.2 through 2010, XP-Pro 64 SP2.
NVidia 8800GTX-768 (Driver 185.85).
Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz, 4Gb Ram, 4Gb Swap, DX9.0c.

Yes it does come back again upon mouse over but disappears after. I’m not up to memorizing the exact location of items in the quad menu and that’s what makes it difficult. I downloaded the lates 8-series drivers for vista and it didn’t actually solve the problem.

Thank you for your opinion Steve

It’s probably because you have the MS IntelliPoint drivers installed.  Uninstall IntelliPoint and these problems will go away.

I was never aware of that one, maybe I can try it too.

Thanks rbeemer

I have a Logitech mouse without the Setpoint drivers installed (default windows drivers) and I see this occasionally (a few Quad menu items disappearing), but it’s totally unpredictable. The Intelli* drivers usually cause far worse problems like the “desktop in the viewports”.

Thanks, I think I found an easy solution. It seems the transparency effect of the vista is contributing to the whole event. I noticed this when I ran an instance of 3dsmax 2008 along with a 2009. Before starting 2008, the quad disappears constantly. But after opening the 2008 where it automatically switches of the display themes, I discovered my 2009 was ok. So to solve it, I just right click on my 2009 short cut and under the compatibility tab, I just checked the “disable visual themes” and “disable desktop composition”. I don’t know which exactly is which but it works.

Just so this shows up somewhere on the internet, I was having this same problem.

To fix this, I had to disable Rainmeter, a UI customization tool for windows.

Took me some time to find it, happy to share.
