| Queue monitor not finding manager
|
|
|
Hi
i downloaded the 2009 version of Max from the autodesk site to test it before purchase, but i can not get the Queue Monitor to see the manager. The manager seems ot be working fine, and the server seems to be working fine, as i can render without any problem. However whenever i tell the monitor to connect to the manager it gives me the error message:
Communication Error. Closing Connection
i click ok and then it bring up the error message:
Error communicating with manager
The manager seems to know something is trying to connect, as it says:
New client <I.P address> added to client list
I have checked all the ports, network masks, firewalls ect are all correct and i’ve had other people check it over to make sure i havn’t missed anything, but it absolutly will not connect.
I have tried installing earlier versions of backburner (they all see each other fine, but the required max2009 plugin is missing, so wont render) and i have tried re-installing the backburner that comes with 2009.
Anyone got any ideas?

Uninstall Backburner and delete the backburner folder as well. Then reinstall. See if that does it.

well i’ve studied it, got someone else to look at it too, and we both seem to think everything looks correct. so im still at a loss as to why its not communicating. i’m gonna assume its some sort of compatability thing with Vista.
Cheers for the help though

I now have full version of Max Design 2009, i have done the autocam renaming stuff and i can submit and render jobs to the manager, however i STILL can not get the monitor to see the manager. Can someone please give me some ideas as to what might be wrong?!?!?!?
See attached images for the errors im getting.
I’m ready to put my head through my monitor at the moment.
Im using all the defualt values and im told that the network here isn’t set up in any obscure way (not that it should matter, as im trying to run it all on my local machine). Its a brand new Dell, running Vista.
cheers in advance

I seem to recall I had something like this with servers not being able to find the manager, turned out to be a dotNET problem.
See if you have them all installed. dotNEt Framework 1.0, 2.0 and the latest 3.0 (which came with Max 2009)
that might solve things ? worth a try in any case

Had a look. I have 3.0 installed and it all looks like its working correctly. tried installing 2.0 but got a message telling me that 2.0 isn’t supported on Vista. Still no luck with BB monitor!

.Net 2 I believe is already a part of Vista as a base component.
I do not have Vista, use XP32bit still, but running the Manager, then Server, then Monitor applications all worked fine and loaded connected.
I wonder if you have more than 1 manager in your network… when you open the Monitor… do you go to Connect, and on the Dialog, do you allow AutoSearch or do you specify a name for the manager? Do you use the default subnet for your network? 255.255.255.0?
I notice one of the machines is logging in as 10.0.0.x ... do you have a reason for not using one of the local network IP Address schemes? Typical for most internal networks is 192.168.x.y ... are you trying to connect a remote machine to a remote Manager across the Internet? I don’t know, 10 may be one of the local network ranges. I ask because I think there are different means for using Internet connected machines not on a local network.

10.* is a local address range as well as the the more commonly used 192.168.* range. It is a MUCH larger range (Class A network) than 192.168.* (Class C) but equally valid. It’ is unusual to have a single machine on a different range though.

Im the only person running 3D max on this network, so there wont be any other managers, plus im trying to do it all on my machine. I just want to que jobs up over night to render on my local machine. There wont be any other networked computers rendering.
When i open the monitor and connect i leave it to autosearch using the 255.255.255.0 mask. I have tried manually putting in my computer name and my IP address (10.0.0.30) but i get the same error messgae each time.
If i try putting in a different IP address, manager name or just try to connect before loading the manager on my PC, i get the usual error message that a manager can’t be found rather than the communcation error seen in the screenshots.
That machine that is logging on as 10.0.0.30 on the screenshot i posted only appears when i try and use the monitor to find the manager. its almost like the manager is registering the monitor as a server or something. everytime i try to connect to the manager with the monitor it says that ‘New client 10.0.0.30 added to client list’
