Render Elements problem with Mental Ray

I have a functional render that I want to split up. I made a render elements list and when I go to render I can see that during the Final Gather phase the render looks fine but Then Mental Ray renders black over the entire frame. For every pass, Diffuse, spec, shadow, alpha, etc.

Seems to work perfectly in the scanline renderer though.

Please help.. What am I doing wrong?

Are you using the photographic exposure?  ....if so, render elements will not work as designed.  You can use Hot Chips Photostudio Pro shader to work around this.
