Hi All,

I am using the trial version of 3ds Max 2009 on my new Vista machine.  I can create, open and edit max files that originated on my machine, but for some reason I cannot open a .max file sent to me through GMail.  Anyone else deal with this issue?  I called customer support and they could not really help me since I did not purchase a copy yet.

I would appreciate any advice regarding the error message I get when opening foreign .max files.

Thanks,

Sollis

Here is a max file saved from a 32bit 2009 version running on XP Pro.

See if you can open it.

If yes, perhaps the GMail file was corrupted, unless you can open it on another system at your location.

If not, then the cause is not the file.

Fro more files to try, go to: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/ser...d=11006495&linkID=9241175
And download some of the Supplemental files.

Sollis - It’s advisable to never send “raw” files by email - always zip them. Apart from the size benefit you also get CRC checking which gives you a clue about the state of the file.

That error message is the same one you get when trying to open a file created by a newer version of Max - I too suspect corruption of some sort because there IS no newer version…

Thank you for your help.  I tried using hotmail instead of gmail and the files opened successfully.  Still a strange issue, but at least I got it working.  I will take your advice about not sending “raw” files.  Thanks again.
