I have a file that was made in 3ds Max 2009.  It works great in 32 bit, but it crashes on 64 bit.  It uses mental ray, and uses standard materials, with a normal bump (using a tga file) as the bump map.  It crashes on all the 64 bit machines here.  I’ve tried merging in pieces, I don’t think there’s anything corrupt in the file.

Any ideas?

Could you try saving a copy of the scene with no materials and see if 64bit will then open it?  Just to eliminate them if nothing else.

Aren’t there some modifiers that 32bit does that 64 can’t? Or something like that? Just don’t remember what it was…

Not sure about modifiers - certainly AVI Codecs and one Import type (VRML/*.wrl) IIRC.
