max 2009 service pack 1 bugs

autodesk have not fixed the bitmap cropping bug >
bitmap cropping bug has yet to be fixed sp1 did not address it, it’s still there and still as usless as ever.
the workaround is to nly view you bitmap with 1 channel r g or b so you can actually SEE what your cropping
come on dev team...get with it and fix this for sp2.

sp1 has CREATED a new bug whereby lightlister is rendered usless i can see no good reason to install sp1 at all
currently.

lightlister bug [sp1]>
if you use instanced lights in your scene lightlister will fail to run....try it.
sp1 is not worth it currently.

Hi guys! I´m new here and this is my first post ‘congratulations… lol..’

I´m using Win XP 64 and 3ds Max 2009 64
Hardware 16GB Ram and Dual Xeon X5355 (2.66Ghz)

The problem:
1) Editable spline with Garment modifier
2) Apply Cloth Modifier
3) Apply HSDS Modifier
4) 3ds Max Crashes!....

In any situation.... Can be a very simple spline or spline with internal seams. All times i see this error. Then i need to “End Task” on win xp.
Bug...? I´m the Bug? lol....

Issue with switching between Region and View in the Render Viewport. Also using VRay 1.5 SP2 at same time, but don’t know if is the cause. Here is the maxscript error:

Im getting this also when I touch area to render, drop down box or edit region or auto region selected, viewport, render preset etc.

Max Rollout Exception Handler
---Unknown system exception.

Im using Vray 1.5sp2 also

The Area light problem is still not fixed in max2009 SP1.

1,create a Photometric Light.
2,change the light shape to “Rectangle”
3,create a plane near the light to illume.
4,choose Mental ray renderer.
5,render it

in max2008, the shape of lighten part in the plane is Rectangle, but in max2009, the shape of lighten part in the plane is a stretched dot.

这个问题困扰了很久
但是SP1都没改进

难道Autodesk
的人就不认为这是BUG

( most likely I have this wrong, but here’s my guess :) )

I think Jeepyang said basically;

“This has puzzled me for a long time, but SP1 does not improve on this, and a person at Autodesk said they do not think this is a bug.”

BIPED NECK ROTATION BUG

Follow these steps:-
1. create a Biped.
2. Go into Figure Mode.
3. adjust the bones (maybe to fit a skin mesh you have loaded).
4. Rotate the neck bone forward.
5. Exit Figure Mode.

The neck will snap back to the vertical position.

Hair and Fur Bugs:

1) Hair renders black if system unit setup is milimeters, there are lights casting shadows, and hair is in buffer mode.

Steps:

1- Set system unit setup to “inches”.
2- Create a sphere
3- Apply a Hair and Fur modifier
4- Create a Spotlight to illuminate the hair and turn cast shadows on.
5- Render…
6- Now set system unit setup to millimeters and render again.

The hair is black. It happens in max 2008/2009 and 2009 sp1...I tested in max 8 and works fine. The shadows are causing problems as I can see.

2) Instanced geometry hair crashes max.
================================

The following procedure should lead to a max crash or a strange error message from mental ray:

1- Create a plane
2- Create a Cone
3- Apply a Hair and Fur modifier to the plane
4- In the Tools rollout, pick the cone as the instance node
5- Apply another Hair and Fur to the plane on top of the first one. Leave it as is…
6- Check if the Hair is in buffer mode in render effects panel.
7- Try to render…

If max does not crash, mental ray will render, but the message window will popup showing this error many times:
PS: Trying to make changes do the instace geometry hair after rendering (like change scale, tickness, etc.) and rendering again, will probably make max crash.

“API 0.3 error: Shave: createGeometry: 190 faces is no divisible by 1 instance.
API 0.3 error: 31186: app call fails to define object _0@5:9al:: shaveMRinstanceGeom000000000EE94C68_obj16”

“Renaming modifier doesn’t work the first time....”

I can confirm that this bug is still present in 3ds Max 2009 SP1, and that it was not present in 3ds Max 2008.

To reproduce the error:
Create a plane object, assign an Edit Poly modifier, right-click on the modifier and select Rename.  It won’t take on the first attempt, but the second time works.

Gary’s report (quoted below) was posted a month prior to SP1, so it has still not been fixed.

I usually have to do it twice (even pressing Enter) for the rename to take effect.
