The Area light problem is still not fixed in max2009 SP1.
1,create a Photometric Light.
2,change the light shape to “Rectangle”
3,create a plane near the light to illume.
4,choose Mental ray renderer.
5,render it
in max2008, the shape of lighten part in the plane is Rectangle, but in max2009, the shape of lighten part in the plane is a stretched dot.
yes ,this is a very big problem .I can not use it to work.
I can not believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
why autodesk do something wrong like this?it’s a joke?

The color of the Kelvin temperatur with the photometric lights has been changed with the versions Max 9 and Max 2008, and is still persistent without any legacy option. Does anyone knows a workaround…

Daylight System - Azimuth & Altitude values displayed are incorrect. Sun’s physical position is correct. Had we not used an online solar calculator to verify this we would have ended up with egg on our faces. We had to provide this data with a visual assesment that was presented at a high profile planning appeal. It seems to be a simple calculation in the code that is at fault (IMHO, i’m not a programmer). If you uncheck daylight savings you get the correct AltAz, but then the suns position is incorrect. I think it’s better to remove these values entirely rather than have them displayed incorrectly.

If the developers visit this thread, can anyone tell me do autodesk vouch for the accuracy of their daylight system?

If I make a Multi/Sub-Object material and change the diffuse color of one of the Sub-Materials by clicking the color box on the right of the material, the Color Selector doesn’t retain the previous color when I change it and it applies the new color to any objects that have the material applied to it before clicking OK. So clicking cancel or reset doesn’t revert the color to the previous color. It works perfectly fine when I go into the Sub-Material and click on the diffuse color box.

It’s a minor annoyance rather than a show stopper, but I still consider it a bug.
When you change the file output on the render dialog, the file name that was previously entered is changed to lowercase on the open file dialog. It also happens in other places like the open file dialog of a bitmap in the material editor.

Hair and Fur BUG on grass field with billboard opacity mapped trees.
There seems to be a bug in MAX 2009 when using hair and fur together with opacity mapped objects.

scene state not saving environment settings, photographic exposure in particular.
Saving a scene state with just environment settings, changing photographic exposures is giving me a ton of problems, sometimes it works once i get it setup, but then reverts to only one of the settings. Going to do some more testing, but thinking bug.
