Is toon type rendering (flat/monochromatic/non-realistic) rendering easy to do in Max with its native renderers? Or do people still use plugins like “Illustrate”?

I have a project which needs an architectural plan / outline only look, and also a project which the client wants animation (and live action) to look like comic book illustrations.

Thanks, Steve

You can use the Ink n Paint material with scanline and mental ray, or use the contour shaders with mental ray only. Both can get you pretty nice results, but the contour shaders render really fast.

Thanks, I tried that with ink & shade. Seems to work just fine. Will try a tutorial to get the fine points.
