Using PHOTOSHOP FILTERS in VIDEO POST

In previous versions of Max there was an easy way to add Photoshop filters to the Video Post queue.
Now you do it by adding an “External Event”.
No idea how this works, and cannot find any documentation anywhere.
I need some step by step instructions on how to set up a Photoshop filter in Video Post.
Anyone up to it? Or can you lead me to info on the web?
