I’m sure this has probably been answered before, however my search turned up nothing.

I have a guitar model, and I have a six strings (Currently four tightly coiled springs and two cylinders) and I want the strings to vibrate as part of an animation.

Is there a plug-in or an inbuilt feature that can achieve this?

Thanks,
Turaga Nuju

You could use soft selection within an edit poly modifier, add a noise modifier and give it a noise controller in the curve editor. The attached scene is setup that way.

Hi Kruger.

Very elegant solution.

Could you explain this a bit more. I tried to duplicate your example, without success.

Also, how would you limit the frames this occurs at? I tried to move the keys in the track editor without success.

Thanks,
Frank

The animation comes from the noise controller on the strength value. The keyframes in the timeline are for the phase value which are created automatically when you create the noise modifier. They don’t matter for this.

To animate the effect, open the curve editor with the string selected and expand Modified Object> Noise and double click Strength and that will bring up the noise controller window. Use auto key and animate the X Strength, in this case.
