I seem to have hit something that disabled the display of the viewport labels that appear in the upper left corner of the viewports, ie. Left, Front, Top, etc.  They appear when I start up Max 2009 Design, but then after loading a particular file they are gone.  I’ve tried merging in all content from that scene into a fresh start of Max, but the viewport labels (or lack of) seem to be buried in with that file, if that makes any sense.

Some keyboard command or Pref setting I can use to get these back?

TIA,

Dennis

Help > 3DS Max Help > User Interface > Viewport Controls > Viewport Right-Click menu

Tip If the viewport right-click menu becomes disabled, you can restore it by refreshing the UI scheme. Use Customize menu > Load Custom UI Scheme to load a different CUI file, then reload the original CUI file again. The right-click viewport menu will become available after either the new or original UI scheme is loaded.

How you managed to turn them off I don’t know - sorry.

The viewport right-click menu IS still available when “right-clicking” in the upper-left corner of any viewport.

It’s just that the Label is gone, ie. Top, Left, Camera01, Perspective, etc. and I want to get that back.

Thank you,

Dennis

I have this happen a lot, though not usually with any particular file. (direct 3d on a GEforce card)...sometimes it goes away after a while but sometimes I have to restart Max to get them back You should include your specs, especially with a question like this which is likely video driver related...do you have viewport materials, lighting, shadows, etc turned on?  Does the label appear if you hit the maximize viewport toggle?

Gary,
Using Direct 3D 9.0 NVIDEA GeForce 9800 GTX.  I just now noticed something else.  It seems to me that the little axis icon in the lower left corner of viewports used to show the axis letters (x, y, z) and now it doesn’t, just the axis lines show.  Max/Min of Viewport has no effect.  I’ll try changing vid drivers and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks,

Dennis

I just switched to Open GL display, close Max, re-open Max and load scene and labels and axis info all appear just fine.  Then got to Prefs, switch back to Direct 3D, close/re-open Max and scene file and labels gone again.  Looks like something related to D3D.

I also just tried opening Max with Software display driver (labels are visible), then doing a Merge to bring in all objects from the scene in question.  Labels still visible.  Saved that scene, then changed driver back to D3D, close/re-open Max, load scene.  Labels missing again.  Hmmmmm…

Not a biggie, just annoying.

Any more ideas?  Anyone?

Dennis
