| XYZ input problem - my error or a bug?
|
|
|
Hi - this may be a school boy error or a bug, but I always use the X, Y and Z number input boxes on the lower interface bar, but recently they have gone ‘odd’. To explain; if I hi-light an object and want to rotate it 15 degrees on the X axis, I type 15 in the X box and return - voila, it rotates 15 degrees BUT it doesn’t rotate it in the X axis anymore, it seems to rotate it in another (seemingly random) plane and the big faux pas is when I undo it the object moves back to its original state but the X input box still states that it is at 15 degrees!?
I’ve been using Max for many years and have always used this input dialog so I’m really confused as to what has happened. It *seems* to relate back to when we updated Max 2009 with SP1 but can’t be sure, but it does happen on all seats of 3DS Max so I know its not just me… unless we’ve all hit a new random ‘ screw up your inputs’ shortcut… :)
Any help would be great!
Cheers
Marcus

This has been reported as a bug.
Unfortunately, it is extremely hard to replicate. I had it one time and no more.
If you can replicate the issue, with repeatable steps, please submit a Defect Report. http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/ser...id=5600504&linkID=9241177
If you save the file, exit Max, re-start Max and load the file, does the issue continue. If so, would you please zip and post the file.

Thanks Tim - well i’ve tested it, saved it and re-opened Max and it still happens. I’ve attached the file and will also do a bug report for Autodesk.
Open my file and try rotating the long red box in 3DS Max 2009 in the y axis manually with the rotate tool (not using snap) then edit it using the Y box, then try and undo etc...watch the joys unfold.
Let me know how you get on!
Cheers

Excellent! I had been working with this from a couple of user reports and was never able to repo. I will go over your report now, thank-you for submitting this.

See, they do listen.
No need to even type in anything. Rotate with the Rotate tool then right-click to cancel the operation. The red bar returns to the prior position, but the readout does not reset.
