We have custom scripts and tools that we use here and we normally create a new toolbar and drag the icons onto the toolbar. They normally stay there after restart.

For some reason, just recently, a few of us are unable to get certain icons to stick - three that have to do with exporting files. The others stay there no problem.

Does anyone have any idea why certain custom icons that call an exporter would fail to “stick” to a toolbar after restart? For only some people?

Thanks for any light you can shed on this issue.

I’ve gotten in the habit of saving my UI any time I add or change a toolbar.  And I save it as the MaxstartUI.UI as well as in a separate folder in case of corruption or changing/reimaging my computer.  Once the toolbars and such are saved into the UI scheme, they should stick around.

Chris Medeck. Your tip worked for me. Thanks.

I live in Brazil now, but I lived in Minneapolis for one year. Nice city.

MaxStartUI.cui is what Max wants to save in the customize user interface window and I’ve done that about 60 times. Also the default.ui and MaxStartUI.ui.

I have tried everything I can think of to get the icons to save.

Anyone have anything else I can try? It’s pretty bad having to drag icons up to the toolbar a dozen times a day… (sigh)

Did you check to see if “Save UI Configuration On Exit” is on?

Customize → Preferences → General → UI Display

Edit: I just read your original post again, and I think I misunderstood your question. You are talking about icons and not custom script buttons?

Sheila, if you have saved your Custom UI with the icons on the toolbars as you want, then find them missing when you open Max, what happens if you Load the Custom UI again?  Are they there?  If not, then it sounds like the UI is not saving properly.

Make sure permissions to write to the folder where the UI is stored are set correctly, and that there is nothing in place that would be overwriting those files (a backup/restore script on startup or something similar).
