Hi,
I just upgraded the home office PC to W7/Pro/64bit with 3ds Max 2010/64bit.
At work we’re still running XP/Pro/32bit with 3ds Max 2010/32bit.
If I want to work from home on my 64bit OS and bring those .max files into work on our 32bit OS and vice versa, what compatibility issues are there? What is the best way for me to work on the same max projects on two different operating systems?
Regards,
J

I have experienced problems bringing files created in 32-bit max into 64-bit max. The geometry generally needs to be flattened. I have had this trouble at two different companies, all running XP.

There have been reports of issues, but they are very few and far between. In the vast majority of cases there should be no issues, excluding the obvious like the scene is simply too big for 32bit, the scene uses plugins available at one site but not at the other, the scene using avi codecs available in 32bit but not in 64bit.
In short - make sure your models at least pass the STLCheck to ensure, as best you can, that they are “valid” meshes (or polys) and then try it on both systems. Make certain you have backups, at both sites, just in case something does go wrong, however unlikely that is.
Max 4.2 through 2013.

NVidia 9800GTX-512 (Driver 266.58).
