| 3ds Max 2010 - Wacom Tablet Issues?
|
|
|
Hi all,
I’m adding to the bug list for 3ds Max 2010. I seem to be having issues when attempting to use an Intuos 3 Wacom Tablet inside of Max 2010. Basically, I lose all support for using just the pen in max. I cannot make the cursor move. However, I can use the Wacom mouse and things seem to be working.
I’m running Vista x64 on Core i7 940 // Asus P6T Deluxe V2 box, with NVIDIA QuadroFX 3800. It’s also worth noting that I have turned off Vista’s pen drivers because they interfere with some of the functionality of the Wacom drivers. However, this had no effect on Max 2009, where my pen functionality is retained.
Anyone else using a tablet having similar problems?

Hi !
Same here, wy intuos 3 see its settings modified when max2010 is launched. my programs just disappear and stylet buttons are reprogrammed. The problem persists if i close max, and i need to reboot in order to reuse my pen, i.e iin photoshop… that’s a real pain..

I have a fix for you…
3dsmax 2010 is triggering the launch of the Pen and Ink dll right after it loads all of its other plugins. The reason for this is unknown. It torches all of you Wacom settings though and the problem persists even if you remove/uninstall all components related to tablets. But…
The culprit is wisptis.exe. It can cause all kinds of problems with Max\Wacom\Zbrush etc. When it is triggered by an app it is still completely invisible, both in processes and in services. And if you remove it, it is automatically reinstalled by the OS. (Nice one MS) So here is how to get rid of it. (Warning this is unlikely to harm your system but hey things happen:)
1. Navigate to C:\windows\system32\wisptis.exe
2. Right click and go to Security..click Advanced
3. Go to the Owner tab
4. Click Edit
5. Add your login as a new user
6. Take ownership of the file.
7. Click “Change permissions”
8. Add your login account if you don’t see it.
9. Then edit the setting for the account and give your self full control.
10. Now you need to rename the wisptis.exe to something else and replace it with a empty text file of the same name.
11. Now when Windows call this file nothing happens and because the file is there it is not restored.
Cheers,
Tharyn

i have a OLD Wacom Graphire and it works fine except for a small problem… if a object is selected, I can ORBIT fine using ALT-PEN DOWN-FINGER TIP BUTTON. (design 2010, SP1, COnnection Extension) ( i think the vista tablet crap is still on...didn’t try tuening it off...i noticed a right click pops up menu, but the pointer animation thing destroys the menu where it is at, once I turn off, that will prob go away).
But if NOTHING is selected, the perspective viewport becomes VERY JERKY and not smooth at all… like a 1 frame per second deal?!
I don’t really use the tablet, but gave it a try...not bad, especaially if bouncing back and forth between Mudbox and 3ds. I use the Logitech Performance MX wireless mouse… awesome.

its probabaly a vista related problem.
i had that jerky problem when i first installed 2010 on xp64, but i had to reformat my computer anyway and the problem never came back so its not a 3ds max + wacom problem, its related to windows

Wisptis.exe is responsible for microsoft silverlight and snipping tool which crashes all the time. These are the ones i find out the last two months. (windows 7 64). So this solution is valid but Autodesk, wacom and microsoft have to work together to find a solution. I had to bring my laptop in order to work with a silverlight app. PLEASE! and by the way the snipping tool is a feature I was waiting for years.

Hello,
Is there any update to this problem? I am pretty sure what I am experiencing is related to the same win process. This happens both on an Intuos3 and a Cintiq21UX.
Whenever I am using my tablet in 3ds… I get, what seems like, really bad fps - even when just orbiting simple geo in wireframe. However using a regular mouse… no issues.
I’m on Win7 with an Intel Q9450 and an NVidia GTX260 + 8Gb Ram
on 3ds Max 2010 32-bit SP1, using Direct3D9.0
I am hoping to move to 3dsMax 64-bit soon… but somehow I doubt that this will fix the problem as I get similar but less severe and inconsistently wierd behaviour in both PS CS4 and Zbrush4 as well.
Thanks!
Dan

I’m aware of the Silver Light conflict.
What I’ve done, is made a batch file that swaps out the real wisptis.exe with a fake one for when I work with my Wacom. Lame, but I have little faith in either company addressing this.

A coleage in my class showed me a simple fix for this.
In Windows7 ( I dont know about Vista ), open the Pen and Touch software, and simply disable the Press and hold feature.
