| 3ds Max won't start or load and gives no error msgs...
|

Ok,… I am lost. I have tried everything in my power to figure this out but 3ds Max just wont load. I click on the application and get a small flicker of the hourglass with no response from the program. I open task manager durring this just to watch and have about a 3/4 of a second flickering indication that the application was started… then it dissapers… no error.. no crash info… and have had this happen on two installs… I thought that I was just not installing it correctly… I haven’t found any info in the blogs, posts, or hotfix files,.. is there any data on this?… its only the trial version of 3ds max design 2010...would love to show my supervisor the power of 3ds Max… but cant even open the program to show anything…
any help would be great… heck even a stick in the eye would be more than I have.

It would be helpful if you give us some brief system specs, including OS, video card, and such.
Have you tried running the application as administrator? Or run Change Graphics Mode (Start menu- Autodesk- 3ds Max) and change to OpenGl or Software Z-Buffer.

Hey thanks Chris, I had similar problem. Your suggestion worked. Appreciate it!
I wish I could say I was running something a little more elaborate, currently running IntelR 1.73 2gb ram laptop.
Hopefully soon I can afford to purchase something decent. Anybody know of someone looking to unload a decent laptop would appreciate it. My first time in the AREA, so lookin forward to some good things…

try this: Verify that you have the correct version of the .NET framework installed in the Add or Remove Programs control panel on XP (Programs and Features in Vista). If you do not have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed, you can install it here :http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=AB99342F-5D1A-413D-8319-81DA479AB0D7&displaylang=en
On Windows 7 the installer will not install .Net, because .Net is part of Windows 7. If the start still fails, go to “Programs and Features” --> “Turn Windows features on or off” and verfiy that the “Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 is enabled.

Do you get the splash screen loading and then it crashes before the UI opens? If so try renaming your plugcfg folders (both the in the install directory and in your user directory). I have seen this in the past with corrupt configuration file for Biped. Where renaming the file fixed the problem.

this is where i got from http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/ser...=9242018&CMP=OTC-RSSSUP01
the solution is for inventor 2010/2011
i think max also uses .netframework 3.5 sp1

drp281,
I had .NET 3.5 SP1 already installed, before I installed 3ds Max so I can assume… that isn’t the issue.
PiXeL_MoNKeY,
I don’t have any indication that 3ds Max is running at all…
no splash,
no visual indication other than a flicker of the hourglass
it was only after carefully watching my task manager did I notice it starts for a fraction of a second and then...its gone.
its like the “3dsmax.exe” is empty, but it’s not.
though...it doesn’t have an icon image attached to it either. which is weird.
I mean.. will my 30 day trial expire if I never opened the program at all?

Well I asked the IT guy to look at it to see if any thing the corprate set up would hold me out from using the software blocking it for some reason. his verdict:
“It’s powers of evil are stronger than mine.... I can not help you...”
so… he could not see any reason it would react like this at all,
unless the other Autodesk products are blocking it some how.
so, I am denied the use of 3ds Max by an evil force of unknown power…
Guess I will get a copy for home use… then nothing can stop me!..Mwahaha

I had the exact same problem though I had the program running perfectly 3 days ago as I use it for virtual house models. And I haven’t seen any thread about this subject other than this one, witch is unsolved. I use W7 in this notebook wich has all requirements for the program to run.
I have tryed to unningstall the program, framework, Install Framework 4, run as admin, check is Frame work is on, but nothing different happens. And I have noticed that the processes on the task manager appears with totally different numbers of memory amounts, something from 48k to 21.000k

Video Card: NVIDIA(tm) GeForce 9300M GS (graph memo: 1519 MB, Dedicated: 256 MB, video system memo: 0, Shared memo: 1263 MB) - though when I used to have W Vista the system used to recognize de video card and now when upgraded to W7 (6 months ago) it doesn’t, even after installing all the drivers etc, though I think the v. card is working normally.
