which version of fR?

try renaming your 3dsmax.ini to 3dsmax.bak and restart Max....

or try reloading a UI

we are using fR SP2 R2 (and R3 beta) with Max 2010 x32 and have not seen this problem…

So the common link is FR on x64. I think that’s where I would begin any investigation.

Max 4.2 through 2013.

NVidia 9800GTX-512 (Driver 266.58).

i think the problem is the 3ds max 2010 application menu, its just another of a lot of bugs form this version, when i switch the user interface to the user interface of 3ds max 2009 the file menu works perfect but the application menu its just stupid, why does autodesk invent such new stupid things, the menu was perfect as it was i really don’t understand why they loose time and money for inventing more bugs instead of creating really something useful…

I have exactly the same thing here. FinalRender installed. XP x64. I’m not using 2010 for production yet though, and I haven’t used it enough to figure out when it does and doesn’t happen.

I’m having the same problem, and yes I have FR installed.  Not happening all the time for me and I don’t seem to see any sort of recognizable pattern for its occurance either.

I’ve posted a thread on the cebas forums to try and get some feedback there.

FR and Max 2010 seem to have some odd oddities. In addition to the logo menu freezing/disappearing, the other thing is a little clock animation with a mouse icon that pops up when you tap and hold with the Wacom stylus.

As far as we can tell this is NOT an issue with finalRender - it’s an issue with MAX 2010 itself. This issue presents itself whether fR is installed or not. As has been mentioned the workaround is to switch to the MAX 2009 menus which restores the File menu.

I’ve had this problem with Max in general, using mr as render engine and also scanline - I really don’t think it’s finalrender causing it. Seems to happen much more oftne if you have multiple sessions of max open as well.

I can see the marketing guys at AD sitting around a conference table saying, “ Let’s put that Office file menu in Max, it’s so coooooool!”

Just like the new select by name feature.

It’s truly mind boggling, if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. Fix the features that are broken and/or give the users something that they really need!
