Hello,

I’m new to these forums and was looking for some help.  I have a windows XP SP3 machine whose sole purpose is to run Autoddesk 3ds Max. A few weeks ago it decided to stop working.  I wish I could give you a error message but it simply won’t launch.

Double click the app the little hour glass shows itself for a second and then....nothing.  I rebuilt the machine applied all patches\drivers reinstalled the software with the same result.

any ideas?

Thanks

Check the Event Viewer - Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer.

If it was working and now isn’t, then something changed. Drivers, windows automatic updates, firewall/AV updates - anything like that could cause it.

When you say “rebuilt” do you mean from scratch? Format the drive and reinstall windows? If you intend to do that, park the Max license first (use the LTU from off the Start menu) just in case.

When I said rebuilt I meant from scratch, new OS new Autodesk install.  I checked the event viewer cleared the logs launched the application and nothing appeared in the logs and the app didn’t launch.

Ok then, as it is a “new installation” issue, check this post - there’s a link to the Autodesk supprt forums (the Area is primarily peer-to-peer). You should get a response from them as those forums are manned by autodesk staff.
