Camera viewport issue with "illuminate with scene lights" with "smooth & highlights" activated

Hi, I am new to this forum and quite new to 3ds, I am using the daylight system and in my camera viewport everything is black when it is set as “smooth & highlights” and the lighting and shadows is set to “illuminate with scene lights”, can anyone help??, please explain it to me in simple terms as I am just getting to grips with the terminology,
