| Connection Extension - Snaps
|
|
|
After installing the “connection extension” my snaps are totally screwed up! There is a new category of “body snaps” which is cool. But therefore most of the other snaps are wrong somehow. The icons don’t represent the right snap types any more and the quad menu also doesn’t do what it should. For example when I click on the grid point snap icon, the pivot snap is turned on. Everything is mixed up in a strange way. So I had to manually change the snap palette and give them there proper icons back and the same with the quad menu. Also the Grid and Snap menu displays the wrong items, take a look at the attachment. For example the Endpoint Snap now displays the icon of the vertex snap and so on… Grid Point Snap icon is actually the nurbs surface snap and so on…
Am I the only one with this problem? Did a search but didn’t find anything about this issue.

A couple of days ago I installed the Creative extension for Max Design 2010, & today I’ve noticed that my Snap Toolbar is no longer working properly. Upon noticing this I brought up the snap dialog to see why, & sure enough the buttons on the toolbar no longer correspond to the the check boxes of the Snap Dialog; basically, they are out of alignment.
I’m attaching an image that shows an example, but in the image I only checked the first two buttons to show that they are not showing up; however, if one was to check other buttons within the Snap Toolbar he or she would notice that the button or buttons they select do not match up with the Snap Dialog Box.
At this point I’m not really sure if it’s the extension that caused it, but it is very strange that I did not have any problem until then. Either way, does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Hi All, actually i did installed Connection Extension for 3ds Max Design 2010 too, but it looks fine. What i did is installed the latest service pack for 3ds Max Design first and installed the Connection Extension then. :) Looks good.
Below is the link for the Service pack (3ds Max & Max Design 2010),

hope it will help. :)

So it’s not affecting everyone.
I have SP1 installed too, as well as the extension. Mines the Non-Design version x64.

Well I had the service pack (SP1) installed long before I even received the Connection Extension, so that negates the theory of “no problem if service pack is installed first”. Likewise, I’m running Vista x64 on one machine & XP x64 on another & the problem exist across both platforms.
With that being said, the only other thing I can think of that may have effected the outcome, or caused the problem, is that I experienced some problems installing the latest service pack for the Inventor Suite; however, I find that to be highly unlikely if not impossible.
As a final note, I’ve also reported this problem directly to my company’s software vendor, so hopefully I will have an answer soon. Unfortunately this tactic does not always work, but I have had success with it in the past. Also I’ve spoken with some other local users that are not a part of this thread, & they are, & are not experiencing this problem.

@Yu Hui:
Are you running max on 64-Bit or 32-Bit? I am also running max on 64-Bit Vista. You are also using the Design Version which could be a reason why you don’t have any problems with the extension. Just a thought…

Dmaxman is using Design x64, so it’s in Max and Max design x64.
Is Yu Hui using x32 or x64? Maybe its just happening with x64 versions.

Could someone who has both x32 and x64 installed test this on their x32?
Also, anyone with x32 only (on a 32 bit OS) - try and narrow down whether it’s a Max 64 bit problem or a general problem with Max on a 64bit OS.

Yu Hui is using x64, and doesn’t have the problem, so I’m not sure that’s in now. My x32 install is render only, my license in on the x64 version. Don’t think I can license both, or can I?

If they are both (x32 and x64) on the same system they share the license - obviously only possible on a 64bit OS.
If they’re on different systems, then no - but you could transfer the license temporarily, if you felt so inclined.

You’re right, x32 does run, It’s just I never thought to try it while booted up with XP x64.
I have a dual boot, C:\ has XP x32 and D:\ has XP x64, so I can’t run Max 2010 x32 when booted on my C: drive, which is a pain ‘cos I still need XP x32 for certain bits of hardware and can’t run Max without re-booting. Rambling off topic now…
The snap icons are messed up in Max x32.

Just a quick note, I have not got anything back from Autodesk on the bug report I sent in as of yet; however, my company’s software vendor did call yesterday & said they were in contact with Autodesk about the problem.

It would be unusual if you had received a reply. Those reports are, AFAIK, “batched” up - the more reports there are on a single issue, the higher up the list that issue goes.
If there are a hundred reports on one issue the more unlikely it is they would need to contact you (as opposed to any 1 of the other 99) or indeed anyone at all as they would probably have sufficient information by then anyway.

Thanks Samab.
So it is not a Max / Max Design issue.
It’s not an x32 / x64 issue.
It could still be a 64bit OS issue though - I think everyone in this thread so far (if I read your reply correctly) has a 64bit OS.

I spoke with my companies software vendor yesterday & they said that Autodesk confirmed the problem with the snaps, & that the “Connection Extension” pack was the cause of the issue. Either way Autodesk says to fix the problem the “Connection Extension” should be removed. Truly I have been too busy preparing for a trade show to test this, but I do plan on getting around to it soon.
