Hello,

As the title says, one of the basics functions of 3d max (2010 design sp1), ALT+X is not working for me, from the moment i have upgraded from 3d max 9 to 2010 design. I have tried to remap the action, etc, all to no avail. Have even rolled back some drivers for it, with no positive result.

I have no idea what could be causing it.

Video GFX, Driver and OS
Nvidia GTX 260 216, 190.62 (also tried 190.38 and 186.18), direct3D dx9 (tried openGL as well), Win 7 RTM.

Graphics Vendor Information: Direct3D 9.0 (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260)
GPU Shader Model Support: SM3.0
Maximum pixel shader instruction count: 4096
Viewport Shading Quality: Best
Real-time Sun and Sky: Supported
Real-time Architectural Material: Supported

Thank you for your time

It only works on selected objects.  Make sure one or more objects are selected and then try again.

Thank you for the reply
BUT
Yes, i am aware how it works. I have been using autodesk 3dmax software for over 6 years now, for various modeling and architectural rendering purposes. So it is not a matter of not knowing HOW to use it, but rather of not knowing WHY it doesn’t work on 3dmax 2010 x64 Design

My problem still stands.

mabye you had disabled transperancy in the viewport ?

There are 3 options avalaible “None/Simple/Best”, another thing i remember is that see-through transperancy has it’s own color value in the ui configuration tab, maybe something there went havok…

Taking the 3dsmax reinstall-route is really done far to often, never had to reinstall
any of my max installations in the last 8yrs, except when i accidentaly deleted something from
the max folder or installed a crashy update or hotfix (which was not too uncommon in the past....)

It’s maybe a bit old…

...but! I stumbled upon the same problem: blanked out object-properties / no ALT+X functionality!

Easy answer: change ‘By Layer’ to ‘By Object’ in the ‘Display Properties’ section of ‘Object Properties’.

Problem should be solved, because you may enabled the layer to take control of the display handling.

cheers, bex
