I have made a scene setup with “Evermotion HD Models Cars Vol. 1 - Model.04 - Audi Q7 Car”.

I was not satisfied with the default “CarPaint-mi” Material, thus I have followed this tutorial to understand much better how to create a realistic mentalray Material with HDRI Environment Reflections:

http://www.dmmultimedia.com/3dtips_06e4.htm

The problem is that this tutorial explain “How to create a Local HDRI Environment” with mentalray Material, not a Global HDRI Environment.

Thus I have tried to use a Skylight, and I have put the same “local” Environment Map prepared for “mentalray” material (Environment Slot), to the scene background.
I also checked “Use Scene Environment” button to the Skylight.
The rendering is correct.

1) But I want that the HDRI Environment Map doesn’t appears to the scene background. I want that appears just on the reflections-refractions and lightning of my Car model.
How can I do to reproduce this behavior?

I have also tried to put this HDRI image directly to the “Map” Slot of the Skylight, without “Use Scene Environment” option and with “SkyColor” and “Map” Checked, but it doesn’t functions at all!

Please how can I do?

See the RAM Player image with my renderings:

- On the Left image it appears the firts rendering without environment Background. It appers just the HDRI image, applied to local Environment Slot of mentalray material.

- On the right it appears the global Environment with the unwanted Scene Background image.

Both correctly, but not what I want!

Horsepower.

Use the Evironment/Background switcher for the Environment map, instance it to the material editor. It will let you have one map/colour for the background, and a different map/colour for the environment (reflections/refractions).

Ok!
Thanks you for this suggestion!
Now I can render in a separate manner the background from the Reflection/Refraction images.

But another question about the HDRI Environment:

- How can I do to make a Cylindrical Environment (as default) that reflect the HDRI highlights that moves indipendently from the Car body?

I ask this because just when the Car rotates, (changes the orientation) the highlights change the position.
They don’t change when the Car moves straight in Y axis.
I have made a short animation movement (Y axis), but the HDRI Environment seems to be attached to the car!
How can I do to reproduce this separate behavior?

Horsepower.
