Hi all

I’ve just started using 2010 and have noticed a problem with the chamfer feature in editable poly. In every other version of Max I’ve used, when chamfering you get a 45 degree chamfer as you would expect. However in 2010 this does not always seem to be the case. Anyone know why this would be?

I made a simple box then created an inset on one of the faces. This was then extruded inwards. I then chamfered the edges with the default setting (1.0). The chamfer at the bottom is fine. When measured it is 1 x 1 45 degrees, but the chamfer at the top is not it’s 1 x 0.707 54ish degrees.

If I created the same object as a mesh then it gives me 2 perfect 45 degree chamfers.

I’ve tested the same thing with Max 8 and 2009 and they both do it as I would expect. I’ve also tried it on 2 different machines with 2010 on and they both do it in what I would describe as the incorrect way.

Am I being stupid? I can’t understand why I would want to have a chamfer that isn’t by default 45 degrees. Help!!!!

I can confirm. I made a box, converted to epoly, inset the top and extruded down. Cloned the box, and converted to emesh. Performed a chamfer on both boxes. The Emesh looks like it went as expected. The epoly chamfer along the top edge (like you show) is not a 45 degree angle.

What gives?

Glad it’s not just me!

Hope someone can enlighten us.
