Hi,

I am user of 3ds max, I have some quire about max workflow..

1.  3DS Max uses Open GL or DirectX, these libraries are for H/W / Graphic Acceleration. What exactly these two do in this case? What do you mean by Acceleration here?

2.  Considering the following configuration of a PC, how should I optimize it for the best performance to use 3DS Max 10:
Processor : Core2Duo 1.8 Ghz
Motherboard : Intel Original 946
RAM : 4 GB DDR2 800 MHz
Graphic Card: ATI Radeon x1550 (1 GB)
HDD : 160 GB SATA

OS : Windows XP Professional 64bit SP2
Partition : C: 30 GB only for OS (System & Boot in Microsoft terminology)
E: 20 GB for 3DS Max
F: 30 for other software i.e. Photoshop etc.
G: for data.
Miscellaneous stuff:
Defrag, Disk Cleanup done time to time on all drives.
AVG antivirus latest and updated
Malwarebytes antimalware and antispyware.
System is clean, not infected.

Kindly go through these problems & i am waiting for reply.. thnx in adv..

1. DirectX 9
2. Add more ram if you can.
Skip the “partitions”...not much need for that.

What h/w/ graphic acceleration are you talking about?..

3ds max 2010 is designed and optimized for DX9, but also has Open GL support.

I suggest you to buy more HDD(it’s cheap..), 160GB is not enough really, only programs will take that space. and when you’ll get to buy new hardware - buy new motherboard, cpu and ram. Actually 4 GB should be enough especially if you have win XP, and good DDR2 ram costs more than DDR3, so it’s better to buy new motherboard and all what it will require.

Update your windows to SP3(it’s free),

put project folder from 3ds max to Data drive, put 3ds max installation folder to software partition. I suggest you to have 2 HDDs, one for OS and softwares, another for data. as software you access much often than data(e.g. when browsing the web you’re loading it from the HDD), there’s bigger chance that you’ll loose that HDD than another, and plus backup your data often. you’ll think why loose whole my time and money on backing up your data periodically, but when you’ll loose that data you’ll know why.

having 2 antivirus at the same time causes bad consequences. it’s similar to have one fake AV.

currently I have one 500 GB, one 320 sata and one 170 GB drive, and first is 400GB full(for OS and software, plus some installers), second is 300GB full(data) and third is for another os, which is 80% full.

So, you know, hard drives will get full pretty fast, I wanted to buy 2 TB sata drive for 150$, but somewhere in eastern asia were floods and prices went high, buy used parts if you got not big pocket
