Hi,

I recently configured my user paths to the Max 2010 folder on my c drive ( for some reason when i had my software re installed onto my 64 bit OS they were being directed to an old 3DS Max folder in my documents?)
i thought i had solved the problem but when opening 2010 i get the following message ( see image)
any ideas on why this has happened and how i can resolve the issue?

Many thanks

Steve.

First question has to be:-
Exactly what did you change, and why?

The folders mentioned in the error message (images, sceneassets etc) are sub-folders of the main Project Folder. They would, by default, all be set to “relative” i.e. relative to the Project folder so all projects have the same file/folder structure.
By default, i.e. immediately after installing Max on a system it has never been installed on before, the initial Project Folder is down in Docs&Settings (or Users for Vista/Win7) - it is definitely not in Program Files so you must have (previously) changed the Project Path to be the same as the Max installation folder (in program files).

Depending on what else you changed, set the Project Folder to somewhere other then the Max install folder, go to the Configure User Paths and change every line on the File IO tab to be relative. You may need to close Max and reopen it at some point.

Now create another Project Folder and note that all the sub-folders have been created for you. Copy everything to do with your project into the correct folders but DO NOT overwrite the .mxp file. With any luck your project should then work correctly.

Hi Steve,

Yes i think thats exactly what i did !
I think that when rightly or wrongly i was having problems with locating my materials library in 2010 ( by default it was going to the materials library in my documents and there was nothing in there) so i redirected to the max installation folder, which i now know where the problem lies. i will attempt the above, so fingers crossed.
i suppose i could always uninstall and re install max 2010 if i get any problems?

regards

There are config files all over the place - uninstalling/reinstalling neither removes or overwrites them, so that should be a last resort.
