At least I think that’s what my professor told us to do...Anyways, he told us to make a box in 3ds max and then unwrap it.  He told us to do something else, but he talked so fast that I can’t remember what that was.  Basically, we have to take the unwrapped box UVW and convert it to a bitmap, so that we can put it into photoshop and give it a texture.  How do I convert it to a bitmap?  Also, once it’s there, do I put the texture images in each individual squares and on different layers?  Or do I have to do everything separately?  When I am done in photoshop and save it, again, as a bitmap, how do I bring it back into max as a texture and get it properly on the box?  If anyone has any idea of what I just said, could you help me figure this out?  The professor wants us to make a crate just using a box with a texture.  Next time, we have to make another one, but pimp it out.

In the Edit UVWs window of the Unwrap UVW mod, choose Render UVW Template... from the Tools menu.
Save that and use as a template to paint what you want in PS.
Load the painted texture into a map slot on your material in material editor and apply to your object.
