I tried to set the old hot key alt+x for the ghosting toggle, but nothing happens.  The maxscript listener says that I’m toggling ghosting on and off, but there is nothing happening the view port.  Does anyone else have any problems with getting the ghosting(see through) toggle to work?

OS: XP 64
video: Quadro fx 4600 ...  Maybe just another issue with the invidia cards that max 2010 has.

Anybody know how to get rid of the jerky(stuttering) viewport yet for the quadro cards?  I have installed the latest drivers, no effect.

In your object properties, you may have display properties set to ‘by layer’ rather than ‘by object’. I think this is the default for new objects until you go to Customize - Custom UI and Defaults Switcher - Max.mentalray

Why did you try changing it? Alt+X is the defualt shortcut for “Display as see-through toggle” in every version of Max including 2010.
If it isn’t working you won’t fix it by changing the shortcut key…

And no - no problem at all, it works perfectly here.

Sometimes the newest driver isn’t the best.  A few people have mentioned rolling back to an older driver and getting better performance.  But that’s really dependant on your current hardware and software setup.

And if you’re assigning new shortcuts for commands, I highly recommend choosing shortcuts that are NOT being used.  I’ve worked on a coworker’s computer in the past where many common shortcuts had been changed or removed, and it was very frustrating.  From years of experience, I’ve decided to keep the customization to a minimum just to save time and headaches!

Thank you guys for your responses.  One thing I would like to add about the see through mode.  I am familiar that see through mode has always been alt+x so when I installed max 2010 and I tried to “see through” something nothing happend, I checked the brandnew key board shortcut list and there was no hotkey association to it, fresh out of the box.  That’s is why I went to assign it back to the old standard.  It is interesting but still annoying that mine is a special case though :( ... which means: not going to get fixed.  I did find one other instance of this on another board somewhere.

Does it work if you set it in Object Properies rather than with Alt-X.  That will tell if it’s your shortcuts or you graphics card.
To help with the viewport performance with the Quadro, I found hiding the Viewcube made a big difference.
Though on the same hardware, Max 2010 on XP64 is still slower than Max 2009 on XP32 was.
