Hi,

The higher the poly count, the slower the viewport responsiveness gets.

I installed the latest video drivers and even tried to rename the viewcube plugin files so they won’t load.
Same scene in Max 2009 works like a charm, in Max 2010 it’s just terrible.
Even just pushing the orbit icon or changing viewport makes it very slow in responses.

Tried Direct3D and OpenGL.

Any ideas cause I can’t see any solution so far and it worries me.

Thanks,
Davy

What is your hw configuration? Are you using nvidia GeForce with the 180.xx driver?

...yes, NVidia GeForce and using the latest 182.xx drivers.

I am on Windows XP 64-bit.

I will have to try on Vista 64-bit to see if it makes any difference on this configuration cause for now, that’s the only thing I can think of to try.
I have no idea what to enable/disable to troubleshoot.

...playing with NVidia settings and looks like performance is almost back to normal.
Everything runs smooth except when I have a 7mil poly object, orbiting has hickups at maximized viewport.
That’s the only difference with Max 2009 I still have in viewport performance.

Even renaming the viewcube plugin files didn’t change that (as in Max 2009, I always had those renamed).

This is all I know right now. Hopefully it helps you.

...thank you, I already did the viewcube setup like that.

I will see if anything will improve when I switch to Vista 64-bit soon. For now, it works more than ok :)

Turning off Aero does seem to work a bit better but my problem was with the tablet.

I found this solution on the wacom forums:
This also turns off the annoying circles when clicking with the pen.

Type “gpedit” in the command line window and press enter. Now, at the new window that opens, navigate to
User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Tablet PC
> Cursor.

Now enable the Turn off pen feedback setting.

If this doesn’t work for you there are other settings in the tablet pc folder you can deactivate.

This makes max viewports run great even with aero turned on.
