Since there are always reports of possible bugs in the software with each release, please use this Bugs Master Thread to only post the report of the suspected bug here (include explanation of the bug and steps on how it can be repeated).  This is unofficial, and may be removed if Autodesk feels it improper, but I thought it was a good way to verify which are bugs and workarounds where available.

Start your own thread on the bug so people can reply, discuss and test whether it is a bug or not THERE, NOT HERE.

Always, read the whole thread before posting the bug so that we don’t have 10 versions of the same bug reported.  If you feel you’re adding to a description, we can edit the original report and delete your duplicated report no problem so go ahead and add the additional info in your report.

Keep it short and simple.  Explain the bug and explain how to reproduce it only.  If you have a sample image to better explain it, post that as well. If posting a reply to this thread, limit it to only reports of new bugs you suspect you ran into.  Discussions should not be carried into this thread, discussions should take place in your copy thread that is meant for testing and verification.

No discussions in this thread. PROVIDE A LINK TO YOUR OTHER THREAD WHERE DISCUSSIONS CONFIRM THE BUG.

Log the bug here: Defect Report Submission Form

Addendum: Although we recommend that you do a search before reporting twice, do not worry about duplicate bugs being reported. It’s better to report multiple times than none at all.

Step-By-Step Instructions On How To Report Suspected Bugs:

1. Start your own discussion thread (NEW TOPIC) describing the problem and steps to reproduce it.
2. Also post the problem here in this thread, and make sure to provide a link to your thread from Step #1.
3. Log the bug here: Defect Report Submission Form
4. If solutions or workarounds are found, please post them in your own thread and post an update here by editing (add to) your original post.

Thank you.

WARNING: If you do not provide a link to a discussion thread, your post will be removed without notice. Please help us maintain a clutter-free thread.

Please note.

In addition to the above, any posts which contain a Discussion Link to a thread which does not have replies, by other members, confirming the “bug” will also be removed without notice.

Hi all,
I getting some weird behavior from saved materials libraries in max 2010. I already report the defect to autodesk but i just curious if anyone also has the problem. Here is a breakdown:
- Open 3dsmax
- Make a material with a bitmap texture from a any location
- Save it to a new material library (Go to the material browser select Mtl Editor and Save as)
- Close 3dsmax
- Open again
- Open the material library we just saved and put the material in the material editor
- Check if there is the a path in the bitmap texture or just a string with the file type something like “PNG File” or “JPEG File”, if this is the case then you are getting the same “bug” as i have

Best regards,
Daniel

[Edit] Change the image to show before saving to a library and after loading in a new file.

I don’t know its a bug, but I post it here.

In case of camera itself have no keyframe, the FG map doesn’t follow the camera view.

Max 2010 does not “remember” the last orthographic (user) view if you are working with a maximized viewport.

To confirm: Set up the typical 4 views; I use top, right, front, and user. Zoom in on a detail in one or more views. Maximize the “user” window, then switch to another view (front, e.g.). Switch back to “user”; this used to give me the user view I was just in, now it starts from “scratch”. This behavior exists with both DirectX and Software G-Buffer.

Viewport bug?—no “memory” of ortho views

CAT places subframe/tick keys on rotate keys when in animate mode and “k” does not change the values if you use it.
Here is the discussion thread on it:  http://area.autodesk.com/for...eing-placed-on-subframes/

1) k button not recording changes in values
I have a screencast of the “k” button not recording the change in values here:
http://www.screencast.com/t/yhYpfEsf8

2) Timewarp sometimes defaults to frame 1 upon rig creation even when the timeline is set to start at 0
It’s All about the TimeWarp!!!
I have a screencast showing how the timewarp, upon rig creation, is creating a key at frame 1 when the timeline is set to start at 0.  WIth this slight frame discrepancy it causes the rotation keys to separate from the position keys when in autokey mode.  If you change the first keyframe of the time warp curve to frame 0 your new keys will be placed back in sync and works normally. I am not sure why the timewarp is setting a key at frame 1 upon creation when the timeline is set to start at frame 0.  This may be the actual bug.  It looks like the keying is working OK once the time is not shifted.

Here is the screencast of it:
http://www.screencast.com/t/0mjDtjjk62h

This also happens in CAT for 2009

Hi!
I cannot receive falling shadows from “Hair and Fur” when I use Omni light and mrArea Omni light.
With other light sources all OK.

When i’m in the Graphite Modelling tools (Push/Pull in my particular case) all the selection tools (section, move, rotate etc) uncheck on the main tool bar (this is normal because I’m using something else) but when I then click to Orbit my model the selection, move or rotate button doesn’t automatically come back on so I can’t select anything or even bring up my right-click menu until I re-select a Selection tool.

It can be solved easy enough by clicking back on to your chosen selection, but just slows you down enough to be annoying

After experimenting this does only seem to happen after you do Push/Pull then Orbit and, so far as I can see, no other Graphite tools. Plus it happens on other workstations here at the studio.

I run my Vista to have the taskbar (at the bottom) autohide unless I move my mouse towards the bottom of my screen where it pops up- I have always done this… but this feature doesn’t work while I have Max 2010 open and selected. If i don’t run Max full screen and click on IE or any other open program (so that then becomes active) autohide taskbar works again. Re-select Max 2010 and autohide doesn’t work.

This appears to be a Vista only problem as it works fine on an XP machine - have tried this on multiple Vista and XP machines with the same result.

Marcus

Follow this link: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/ser...id=5600504&linkID=9241177

The way around this is merging objects with the materials you want to use, but of course this is just a dummy way of working around this bug. I think this is due to the asset managment that as change alot in this version and some how the asset stream didn’t get implement for the .mat files.

Best regards,
Daniel
