Daniel,
wich max release are you using? The final 2010?
dgsantana 22 April 2009 07:35 PM
Hi all,
I getting some weird behavior from saved materials libraries in max 2010. I already report the defect to autodesk but i just curious if anyone also has the problem. Here is a breakdown:
- Open 3dsmax
- Make a material with a bitmap texture from a any location
- Save it to a new material library (Go to the material browser select Mtl Editor and Save as)
- Close 3dsmax
- Open again
- Open the material library we just saved and put the material in the material editor
- Check if there is the a path in the bitmap texture or just a string with the file type something like “PNG File” or “JPEG File”, if this is the case then you are getting the same “bug” as i have
Best regards,
Daniel
[Edit] Change the image to show before saving to a library and after loading in a new file.

Skin modifier freaking out!
Apply a Skin modifier to any Editable Mesh, for instance a sphere or a biped.
Some errors include:
Unknown system exception
CoCreateInstance() failed Please check your registry entries
Sometimes a MAXScript window appears with two scripts loaded (addmodfunc.ms, filterfunctions.ms).

*Edit* Running 3ds Max 2010 as an Administrator, and applying the Skin modifier worked, although there was a delay applying the modifier. After doing this, I no longer needed to run max as an Administrator to apply the Skin modifier. Everything appears to work fine after doing this.
Thanks for any FYIs!

XView Face Orientation
does only work for viewing the result , you cannot select the problem (flipped) faces.
(other people that have found same bug: http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=6&t=758059&highlight=xview)
If you enable XView, and Face orientation, you will se the flipped faces as bright green colour, but when clicking “select Results” and then on sub object polygon, it selecs all the polygons not the bad ones.
I have found that flipped uvw faces works with the select results command, however this is useless if you are working with imported geometry form other cad applications.
I would love to see this being fixed in the next hotfix or update.
Other than that I am really impressed with the updates of 3dsmax 2010 !

i think i have found a bug, 3ds max design 2010 64 bit, latest hotfix installed, vista 64.
-create a simple scene with a ground plane and a pool. set the water surface to generate caustics
-check generate caustics in render setup, make sure all objects receive and generate caustics is unchecked
-add a daylight system to the scene and some photometric lights to the pool
-in the object properties of the sun and the lights, check generate caustics
-also make sure the water material is configured to generate caustics
-turn on fg and gi
-render. everything should be fine and here it is
-now uncheck generate caustics (or check exclude from caustic generation) in the object properties of the pool lights
-rerender and look at the mr message window and you will see that our pool lights are still emmitting caustics photons
you can also test this with the attached scene.

I’m having problems when using a Wacom Tablet with 3ds Max 2010 in Vista x64. When using a pen (grip or classic) on an Intuos 3 Tablet, the ability to move the cursor is lost. This did not happen in Max 2009.
