| VERY Serious Bug - Filename Overwriting
|
|
|
I’ve found a very serious bug… Max Design 2010 SP1 + Connection Extension, Vista Home Pro 64-bit.
1) Render an image
2) Save it as a .tif (for example) called render_01.tif
3) With the same file open, render a new image (a crop for example)
4) Save image, pick render_01.tif in file dialogue and RENAME text to “render_02.tif”
5) render_01.tif is OVERWRITTEN with new render and render_02.tif does NOT exist!
In other words, when picking an existing file, changing the name and hitting save, the ORIGINAL file is overwritten.
I’ve just lost 7 hours of rendering because of this bug.
Can anyone else confirm?

This actually seems similar to the bug in Vista 64-bit for Max Design 2009… but differs in that with 2009 when you clicked an existing file, renamed the text then hit save a dialogue would at least pop up warning you that you are going to overwrite the existing file. It was an annoying bug but at least it gave you a chance to stop yourself before overwriting. With 2010 this problem is now extremely serious…
Of course the best option at the moment is to manually enter the file name string in save dialogue, but a bug like this needs to be fixed right away to avoid what just happened to me…

I’ve submitted a bug report and added this to Suspected Bugs Master Thread.

I can confirm this bug too. A workaround is once selecting a prior file to get its filename, change the filename as desired, then deselect the file by clicking in space in the dialog, the new file should be saved without overwriting.

Right. Now that you have some confirmations, you can re-post in the “bugs” thread. At the time you posted you had no replies (other than your own) and therefore no confirmations. Consequently your post was removed as per the rules for that thread.
Important.
The “bugs” thread is there as a convenience to other users - it is not a means of reporting bugs to Autodesk. To do that you must fill out the Defect report submissions form.

32 bits, no design, works ok, when u select ur old file and go to change its name the file is automatically deselected.
