Question: Are you using Windows 7 with Max 2010?

Yes. No problems, runs like a top.

Yes. A few hick-ups here and there. No show stoppers.

No. I tried it but had too many problems.

No, I'm waiting until it's supported by Autodesk

7? I'm still on '98!

Our IT department has been testing windows 7 and is pretty impressed with it. They are planning on rolling it our (progressively) to our 2500+ computers in the semi-near future. I was wondering if you are using Windows 7 and what your experience with it is.

Secondly, has anyone heard when AD will officially support it? Will there soon be a new patch or something released by AD to address some of the errors people have come across with 7?

I won’t upgrade to 7 without it being supported by Autodesk. I’ve been burned by Adobe too many times in the past because until recently they hadn’t officially supported a 64 bit OS.

It will be supported at some point - they can’t possibly not support it, but if the fun’n’games they had with Max 9 / Vista is anything to go by it could be some time.
Win7? Me? Hell and freezing over springs to mind (at least for the forseeable future). I only just got XP! (well, last year, for max 2009).

I just cannot imagine that Max 2011 could be Windows 7 incompatible.

Do you think they will wait for 2011, or send out a patch or hotfix? What have they done in the past with an OS changes?

The last one was Max 9 and Vista. It took them 2 service packs to get it fully working, but IIRC they weren’t on a “yearly release” strategy then.
Depends, I suppose, on whether it’s cost effective for them to sort out 2010 now or to wait for 2011 and have it compatible out-of-the-box.
2009 and 2010 were both released in April, so assuming April for 2011 that’s 5 months away. Close call on which way to jump tbh.
That said, anyone using Max to earn their daily crust should be sticking to a proven, stable OS rather than jumping on the latest and greatest (and mostly pointess) IMO.

I cannot remember a patch or hot fix dealing with OS incompatibility.

"The last one was Max 9 and Vista. It took them 2 service packs to get it fully working”

And how about Max 9?  :D

Sorry, couldn’t resist

I have upgraded to win 7 w/ max 2010 64bit. I have noticed a large decrease in viewport framerate/ response time.  Max is very sluggish. I did update my video card drivers and noticed no change.
I haven’t spent a lot of time with it, but I seem to be having more problems with slow response to my commands than I am willing to accept.  If I am unable to find a workaround for this I may reinstall my previous version of Vista and continue with that OS until Max 2010 is supported on Win7.

Actually what pyro777 was asking, what is your system spec? how many rams, processor speed, etc…

I’m curious to know this one as well. Cheers.

Windows 7 Beta (directx 10.1) worked superfine with 3ds 2010. Unfortunately Microsoft changed directx to version 11 in the Release version of Windows 7, so now performance for Quadro (5600) is totally bad, 200’ polys give a framerate of around 2 fps. No matter what I do. All drivers updated to latest versions etc etc ... This is when using nvidia performance driver, with OpenGL and directX things are even worse ...

Does Autodesk even know about DX11? They are having enough problems with DX10, right?
