3dsmax smoothing groups exporting to xsi

Hey folks

Does anyone have any recommendations for the best way to export out a model from max to xsi that will preserve this information/convert it to hard edges?

At the minute my (games) studio is using 3dsmax 2012 and (annoyingly) XSI 2011 so the send to option is greyed out. I’ve tried exporting via crosswalk and it flips the model onto its side and mangles quite alot of the UVs.
