mismatching buckets while using DBR....

hello frnds.... i am rendering walk-through in 3ds max 2012 using vray 2.0..... i am rendering using two machines server machine conf. is windows 7 12 gb ram amd fx 8120 processor gtx 650 graphics card.. slave machine conf is windows 7 12 gb ram amd fx 8350 processor gtx 550 ti graphics card.. main problem..... firstly...i precalculated lc and ir on server machine....coied both files on slave...and used slave machine in DBR....it rendered absolutely fine..... but then for some another shots...i precalculated lc and ir on slave machine instead server machin for some reason....rendered it on slave itself...and used server machine in DBR...but this time buckets assigned to server machine are not rendering properly... server buckets are showing render very dark than other buckets..... i again render the same shot on server machine with new lc and ir...and it renders fine again......... i am really not getting solution for the same.... plz help me................ rendering with DBR

hello guys..... i need some suggestion for using DBR.... can i use DBR to precalculate light cache and ir map??? i tried to do so.....and waited for 5 frames...its not taking buckets from slave machine...(it is taking buckets from slave machin when i am rendering final frame...so problem is not in the machines..) so i just want to ask that can i precalculate lc and ir map by using DBR?? Thank you......waiting for reply.....:-)

hi... i am rendering a walk-through. I have two pc's. one with amd 8120 and other with 8350...both with 12 gb of ram.. But as i am running out of my deadline...so i took more two machines (laptop) on rent...one is i5 and other is i7.....but only 4gb ram in each...first day i tested both laptops...they worked fine..(but now i think they worked coz file was lighter..) and yeah i tested it by backburner server.. but now thr is a problem....2nd day...means today both laptops just stopped to respond to server.....if sumhow they respond it....rendering will stuck at updating objects ...and if it goes through this sumhow and starts rndering...it is just rendering trees and shrubs in my scene... is all this happening only due to insufficient ram???? and if it is so...whats the reason behind rendering only trees???? all of this is while i render with backburner server... i cant risk by opening the file directly on those laptops... plzzz help me as soon as possible...

Hi folks, Backburner Web Monitor is (or can be) a very nice way of accessing backburner from any machine on your network or any machine/ipad/iphone/smartphone from anywhere in the world. This guide is for Windows 7 64-bit systems but it's easy enough to tweak the directories if you're running a 32-bit system. Quite a bit of this has been copied from Autodesk guides and reworded to work with 64-bit systems and the new Apache folder structures introduced in recent versions. It looks long and complicated but it literally only took me 30 mins or so from start to finish and is well worth the effort. Here's how to get it installed and access it with auth mode enabled (rather than read-only - what's the fun in that?!): [i]*NOTE: I don't accept any responsibility whatsoever for what you do while going through this guide. If your network dies, your machine melts or you spill your coffee all over your 3d Connexion as a result of any of this, it ain't my fault. Do carry on!*[/i] [b]1) [/b]install Apache from http://httpd.apache.org (you want the version without SSL eg. httpd-2.2.19-win32-x86-no_ssl.msi) [b]2) [/b]install it with all the default settings [b]3) [/b]open a web browser and type (without inverted commas) "localhost". You should see "It Works!" If not, re-install and check your installation settings. [b]4) [/b]install backburner as normal (or skip this step if you already have it installed). But double-check that it's working normally. Start your Manager. [b]5) [/b]Navigate to the folder where Backburner is installed, by default C:Program Files (x86)AutodeskBackburner. Copy the entire backburner_html folder to C:Program Files (x86)Apache Software FoundationApache2.2htdocs. Rename the backburner_html folder you copied in step 2 as backburner. Copy the following files from C:Program Files (x86)AutodeskBackburner to C:Program Files (x86)Apache Software FoundationApache2.2cgi-bin: monitorCGI.cgi monitorCGI.cfg [b]6) [/b]Navigate to C:Program Files (x86)Apache Software FoundationApache2.2cgi-bin, and then open the monitorCGI.cfg file in an XML or a text editor such as Notepad. Check the Backburner Manager General Properties dialog or the backburner.xml file if you are unsure what port number is being used by the Backburner Manager; see Configuring Backburner Manager. Note: The default Backburner Manager port number is 3234. Changing this port number is not recommended. Save and close the monitorCGI.cfg file. You should have a C:Program Files (x86)Apache Software FoundationApache2.2auth folder. Next, set up a password file for the Backburner Web Server in this folder. Open a command prompt (DOS) shell, and then navigate to the bin folder by typing the following: cd “C:Program Files (x86)Apache Software FoundationApache2.2bin” You use the htpasswd.exe utility in this folder to set up usernames and passwords for all Distributed Queueing System users. Create a password file that contains the username and password of the first user. This file contains the list of usernames and encrypted passwords for all network users. AuthType Basic AuthName Backburner AuthUserFile "C:Program Files (x86)Apache Software FoundationApache2.2authbackburner.auth" require valid-user [b]8) RESTART THE APACHE SERVER.[/b] [b]9)[/b] To test the Backburner Web Server from a machine on the local network, open a Web browser and enter the following in the address line: http:///Backburner (case-sensitive!) If the Backburner Web Server is working, the Web Monitor appears in the browser. All users on the network can use this Web address to access the Backburner Web Monitor. [b]10)[/b] To get this all working on any machine/device remotely (not on the LAN) you need to firstly go into your router settings (i.e. Belkin/Netgear/Bebox etc.) and set up port forwarding to forward port 80 (the default Apache port) to point to your workstation that is running Manager. In my case, port 80 now forwards to GIGABYTE. [b]11)[/b] You now need to open Windows Firewall from Control Panel and go to Advanced Settings on the far left. On the far left of this window click "Inbound Rules". On the far right, click "New Rule" and add port 80 for both UDP and TCP. You should end up with TWO port 80 rules, allowing both to be incoming. [b]12)[/b] now find out your WAN IP from your router (or go to whatismyip.com and it will tell you). Open a web browser and go to *yourwanip*/backburner. If everything has worked, you will be presented with your login screen. Log in and.... Enjoy! Any questions just ask. Autodesk also has a lot of info on this online but most of it appears to be out-of-date with the wrong filenames and folder structures, hence this guide. Cheers, PS. Trouble with Ngons and Polygon Smoothing Groups

Ok sorry if this is a noob question, but I'm still in early stages of understanding the concepts in 3DS involving quads and working with smoothing groups. As you can see in the pictures, I still can't figure out how to smooth the surfaces in the render, and I know it has something to do with the Ngons I have and smoothing the polygons so it doesn't show the hard surface near the Edge lines. If someone could dumb this down for me and explain exactly how to fix this issue, and in a way as if I'm a 5 year old, thanks...

3ds Max Tire Material

Im using Arch & Design rubber for default and tweaking it with help from tutorials. For some reason it seems to want to come out too gray. First pic is the material settings. Diffuse Map is a Falloff Map. Second pic is the result. Ive never had so many problems with a material like tires o.O

Upgrade from 2010 to 2012 w/o breaking backburner?

Hey everyone - has there been a writeup anywhere on transitioning from 3ds Max 2010 to 2012 without disturbing backburner? We skipped 2011 so we're still using BB 2008.1.1... When I used a test render node and installed 2012 it no longer would render 2010 jobs (says it's missing the BB plugin). Rather than blindly trying different solutions I thought I'd reach out here and see if anyone has a solution. I'm sure there are a *lot* of people out there who have been using 2010 and Backburner as their production backbone who will need a solution before moving to 2012. Thanks,

Selecting verts/Skin modifier

Hey! I've applied the skin modifier to my mesh, but every time I click on "Edit Envelopes," my select, rotate, and scale tools grey out - and my move tool is active (no matter which tool I had activated beforehand). I can still paint weights, but the way I prefer to work is to select vertices and use the weight tool. Is there a check box I need to check somewhere? Or uncheck? It seems like a really obvious issue that I'm not seeing. Thanks!
