When you use the cut tool on an editable poly, and cut from one vert, across the polygon, to another vert, you often get an extra vertex.

What is the solution here? Some other way of cutting? It seems like this bug has been in there forever.

Seems ok here.  Try turning on vertex snap to make sure you’re hitting the verts properly?

I’m afraid vertex snap doesn’t change its behavior. It still generates extra verts all the time.

check if you are working on “3d snap”.it isn’t suppose to happen if you have 3d snap on. you can also use vertex connect tool.

thanks - but it still happens even with 3d snap on. The vertex connect tool is nice but I end up using cut all the time because you can also cut across edges if you need to, all in one tool.

This has always happened for me across several versions even with Vert snap. Can only say be prepared to use collapse in conjunction with cut.

Enter vertex sub-object mode, select the two vertices and use Connect.

yes, but connect can’t cut across edges the way the cut tool can. I don’t want to switch back and forth between cut and connect as I model things, I want this bug fixed.
