Hi,

3ds Max -Mental Ray Rendering is a whole new world for me. i am trying to use ‘Distributed Bucket Rendering’ without Backburner.
i have 2 machines- one with win 7-64 bit ultimate and other with Vista Home premium 32 bit.
my main workstaion is Win 7-64 bit. from here i tried to add Vista Home premium 32 bit in Distributed Bucket Rendering list, but continuously getting this error:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
MSG 0.0 warn 012229: could not connect to host - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond. (IPv4)
MSG 0.0 error 011228: mi_msg_connect: failed to create active socket
------------------------------------------------------------------

Kindly let me know if:

--Both machines must have 3ds max/ mental ray installed ? if yes then, at time of rendering, is it necessary to run 3ds max at all machines?
-- do all machines must have same Windows with same operating system?

i have 3ds max design 2012 with mental ray 3.9 Satellite for Autodesk 3ds Max Design

thanx in advance,
Regads,
Saima

You can use a Vista-32 machine for DBR but ONLY if you launch 3ds Max in 32 bit mode on the Win7-64 machine.  The 64 bit Max cannot use a 32 bit MR satellite node.

You can run DBR from your Windows 7 x64 to Windows Vista x32 but you must install and launch 3ds Max in 32 bit mode on the Windows 7 machine or it will not be able to communicate with the mental ray satellite node on the Vista x32 machine.  You can install both x64 and x32 on the Windows 7 machine as a single license.

No, you do not need to go to your satellite machine and run MAX. It will launch automatically.
