Hello everybody. I have a question. I’m not skill at Mental ray, but I’d like to use it. Have a look at attach image. I haven’t set any light in the Red rectangle area. How does Mental ray born this light?

I doubt on “Initial FG Point Density” value. I tested 2 value:
Value: 0.1 > Look fine but seem there’s a slightly light there.
Value: 0.7 > Oh my god! The ghost light. Where are you from?

Can anyone explain this? or any recommendation? Thanks in advance.

The ghost light as you say IS in both renderings, but FG density is so low at .01 that they get spread out and it is smoothed over so you don’t “see” it. .

05 is a good place to start, with interpolate over 35-40 points. Interpolating to 150 is way, way too high and will not yield accurate results, and worse, add significantly to render time too.

For a scene like that try .05, 300 rays, interpolate 40, with 4 bounces. I would set “Limit rays distance” from START 0’ to END at 6 feet.

If you want to learn and Mental Ray I suggest getting “Mastering Mental Ray” by Jennifer O’Connor. It’s like my rendering Bible. I’ve been using Max since r2 and Mental Ray for years, but still there is not a project that goes by that i don’t end up referring to something in her book.
